Adams School of Dentistry kicked off March in celebratory fashion – with a March Madness event coordinated by the Human Relations Committee. Students, faculty and staff were treated to a viewing of UNC Men’s Basketball Duke vs Carolina game from February on the big screen. The committee members served hot dogs, nachos and fixings to the school.

“March Madness is an exciting time in any college town but when you are at Carolina, it’s next level!” said Deedra Donley, a member of the HRC. “I’m not sure when the ASOD began this tradition, but it is one of the school’s favorite events.  It is a time to come together as a school to celebrate with each other in a fun and energetic atmosphere with good food and of course Tarheel Basketball!  It’s an event that puts a smile on everyone’s face.”

Event organizers plan something each year, designed to bring the school together and have a little fun during the day. It’s a chance for people from different areas of the dental school to interact, particularly those that don’t work together regularly.

“Events like March Madness are a fun time for students, faculty and staff to come together and fellowship,” said Jennifer Shull, dental assistant supervisor, clinical operations. “I always enjoy catching up and spending time with those at the ASOD that I don’t see on a daily basis. GO HEELS!!”

“We have, at ASOD, at UNC and in the world in general, seen a lot of change and hardship in recent years. Our learners and members of staff and faculty have remained steadfast through all of it. Coming together at events like this one allows us to celebrate our resiliency, our accomplishments and all of our wonderful people who truly are the most magnificent teammates,” said Anjie Basnight, marketing coordinator, Dental Foundation of North Carolina.

This fun event couldn’t happen without the hard work of the HRC committee members including: Rebecca Lewis, Deedra Donley, Anjie Basnight, Ryan Baker, Michael Dill, Courtney Fearrington, Monique Hayes, Chavolla Hester, Lisa Lassiter, Rachel Madariaga, Paulette Pauley, Sherri Tate and Christina Williams. Thank you for all that you do!
