Acadental Establishes New Scholarship for Adams Students

Acadental, Inc., a dental company based in Overland Park, KS, has pledged $50,000 to the Dental Foundation of North Carolina (DFNC) to establish a scholarship supporting dental students at the UNC Adams School of Dentistry.

“We are grateful for Acadental’s generosity, and we are honored that the company’s leadership has chosen to invest in the UNC Adams School of Dentistry and our dental students,” Interim Dean Ed Swift said. “We are always looking for ways to alleviate debt for our students, and Acadental’s support will help reduce at least one student’s burden each year.”

Once the endowment fund is completed over the next four years, income paid out of the fund will provide at least $2,000 for a second-year, third-year or fourth-year student in enrolled in the UNC Adams Doctor of Dental Surgery program. Likely beginning in 2026, to be considered for the Acadental, Inc. Scholarship students will need to submit an essay, present a research study, or present a new or improved method to help teach and/or further dental education.

The DFNC was chartered in November 1950, just two months after the UNC Adams School of Dentistry opened its doors, to support and enrich the school through private contributions. The foundation began with a modest goal of $100,000 to support research, student loans, scholarships and other projects not covered by state funding. Today, the DFNC awards more than $4 million dollars annually in scholarships, fellowships, and faculty professorships and awards, program support and facility updates. In total, the 501(c)(3) charitable not-for-profit organization holds more than $100 million in private assets that are managed by its Board of Directors, comprising UNC Adams School of Dentistry alumni and friends.
