Mebane Begins Appointment as Assistant Dean of Human Resources and Staff Engagement 

Effective November 2018, August Mebane, MS, DM, began her appointment with the UNC-CH School of Dentistry Office of Human Resources as the assistant dean for human resources and staff engagement.  

As assistant dean for human resources and staff engagement, Mebane will lead the Office of Human Resources; provide advice and counsel concerning employee relations matters; work with school departments and units to create and implement staff development programs; and is the lead representative for the school in human resources policy development and interpretation.  

“I most look forward to working with great people in a culture that appreciates creativity, an entrepreneurial spirit, and a focus on excellence,” said Mebane. “As the HR leader for the School of Dentistry I will strive for the department to provide exceptional customer service, have effective recruitment processes, increase accountability, and boost employee morale.” 

Mebane most recently served as assistant director of human resources in the Duke University Health System. She has more than a decade of experience in human resources, strategy, change management, organizational development and leadership.

Her leadership in cultivating a culture of transparency, integrity, respect, collaboration and trust will be invaluable as we continuously strive beyond excellence.”

She received a dual master’s degree in human resource management and organizational leadership from Wilmington University in New Castle, Delaware, and a doctorate in management from Colorado Technical University.
