Pimenta Selected as Participant in Second Emerging Leaders Program
Dr. Luiz Pimenta, dental director of the UNC Craniofacial Center and clinical professor in the Department of Dental Ecology, was recently selected as one of 20 participants in the Emerging Leaders Program. The program, now in its second year, is managed by the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU).
“I am excited and honored to be chosen to participate in this program,” said Pimenta, who is also the school’s director of global affairs. “The training I will receive through this program will be critical as the UNC School of Dentistry works to further its global outreach and its efforts with the UNC Craniofacial Center.”
The AASCU program is designed to provide mid-career professionals in higher education the opportunity to have a national dialogue with their colleagues and experienced leaders in academia. Participants in the program engage in hands-on exercises, leadership self-assessments and the development of a personal leadership goal achievement plan.
Selected participants have been nominated for inclusion in the program by presidents, chancellors and/or cabinet-level administrators and have a demonstrated potential for growth in higher education.
“I was thrilled to learn that Dr. Pimenta had been selected for participation in the Emerging Leaders Program,” said Scott S. De Rossi, dean of the school. “This is a great opportunity for him to bring some best practices and novel ideas from other colleagues back to the UNC School of Dentistry to enhance what we do here in Chapel Hill.”
The three-day program will be held in Washington, D.C. June 3-6, 2017.
