Turvey Operates and Lectures in India

Dr. Timothy A. Turvey, professor and chairman of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, recently traveled to India, where he lectured and operated at multiple sites.

During his visit he participated in the Sixth Annual Workshop on Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, sponsored by the Mahatma Ghandi Memorial Medical Center in Navi, Mumbai; the 18th National Workshop on Maxillofacial Surgery at Jabalpur Hospital and Research Center; the Indian Dental Association MP Branch in Jabalpur; Shri Medishine Hospital Center in Raipur; and the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Rungta, College of Dental Sciences and Research in Bhiali.

While in India, Turvey also provided live surgical demonstrations which were televised to interactive audiences. The surgical techniques demonstrated included craniofacial surgery to correct orbital hypertelorism, cleft lip and palate correction, orthognathic surgery, and ankylosis surgery. Turvey later remarked that operating away from home on these complex cases proved to be very challenging especially considering staffing and instrumentation issues.

“The rewards of helping others with education and patient care always seemed to supersede the difficulties involved,” says Turvey.
