Robinson Named 2013 Paul Ambrose Scholar
Elizabeth Robinson, D.D.S. Candidate 2014, was recently named a recipient of the Paul Ambrose Scholarship, awarded annually to 46 students nationwide by the Association for Prevention Teaching and Research.
“Being a named a Paul Ambrose Scholar is an honor,” said Robinson. “I am very humbled by the chance to help make a difference. This program provides you with the tools to help those around you as well as forge lasting relationships within many medical disciplines.”
The scholars program provides a micro grant to students who formulate and conduct a community-based health education project to create training opportunities and promote good health where those practices are lacking. Robinson’s project is focused on educating school nurses on gross caries detection in elementary children. This project also aims at creating a relationship with these nurses to help provide a permanent dental home for children who lack established dental care.
As a recipient, Robinson attended the Paul Ambrose Scholars Program Symposium in Washington, DC, held June 20-23. This four-day symposium served as an opportunity for Robinson and her fellow scholars to enhance their leadership skills and learn how to bring change to their local communities.
According to its website, since 2002 more than 500 students from more than 160 academic institutions have been named Paul Ambrose Scholars. Eligible fields of study include allopathic medicine, dentistry, graduate nursing, graduate physician assistant, osteopathic medicine, pharmacy and physical therapy.
