School Grows, Adds Five Faculty Members
The UNC School of Dentistry recently added five new faculty members to its roster.
Dr. Kimon Divaris joined the Department of Pediatric Dentistry as a research assistant professor. In this role, he will work on ongoing NIH-funded research activities at the Schools of Dentistry and Global Public Health, be involved in teaching activities in the pre-doctoral and graduate pediatric dentistry curricula, and will provide clinical care at the UNC Hospitals and the School of Dentistry as a pediatric dentistry dental faculty practitioner. Divaris earned his D.D.S. in Greece from the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens School of Dentistry in 2005. In 2011, he received certificates in pediatric dentistry and global health, as well as his Ph.D. in epidemiology from UNC.
The Department of Periodontology added Dr. Thiago Morelli to its faculty members. As a clinical assistant professor, Morelli will be involved with didactic interdisciplinary courses in the periodontics graduate program and clinical supervision for pre-doctoral and post-doctoral students. He will also conduct translational research related to periodontal regeneration, tissue engineering and peri-implant reconstruction. He actively participates in the school’s Dental Faculty Practice. Morelli is a 2003 D.D.S. graduate of the University of San Paulo and later earned his master’s in periodontics from the University of Michigan in 2010.
Dr. Jonathan Reside also joined the Department of Periodontolgy as a clinical assistant professor. His responsibilities include clinical and didactic instruction at the predoctoral and graduate levels, maintaining a private practice limited to periodontics and implant dentistry in the Dental Faculty Practice, and continued participation in bone biology research. Reside received his bachelor’s degree in cellular and structural biology with departmental distinction honors from the University of Illinois in 2005. He earned his D.D.S. in 2009 from UNC, graduating with honors, and was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society. He subsequently received his M.S. and specialty certificate in peridontology from UNC in 2012.
The Department of Prosthodontics welcomed Dr. Lisa Stoner to its faculty. In her new role as a clinical assistant professor, she will be instructing predoctoral students in the didactic and clinical settings. Additionally, Stoner will be seeing patients in the Dental Faculty Practice. Prior to pursuing dentistry, Stoner went to the University of Virginia and received her bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and her master’s in biomedical engineering. She graduated with her D.D.S. from UNC in 1997 and a M.S. in prosthodontics in 2000.
The Department of Dental Ecology added Ms. Cynthia Lambert as a clinical assistant professor for dental assisting. As a clinical assistant professor, Lambert will provide clinical and didactic teaching in the dental assisting curriculum, clinical teaching in the dental hygiene program, and coordinate research for the Department of Operative Dentistry. Lambert earned her certificate in dental assisting in 1978, her bachelor’s in dental hygiene from Clayton State University in 2007 and her master’s in dental hygiene from UNC in 2012.
