Appointments for Students and Residents
The Adams School of Dentistry provides students with access to counseling services through the Counseling and Psychological Services Embedded Counseling Program. Chris Crowther, our embedded counselor, is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and has an office in the school. Chris is able to meet with students for brief therapy to address a range of issues, including anxiety, school stress, relationship and family concerns and more, as well as to help connect students with other resources such as medication management or ongoing therapy with a community provider.
If you are experiencing difficulty with your mental health at any point during your dental, dental hygiene or advanced education program, you can reach out to Chris at ccrowther@unc.edu to schedule an appointment.
What to expect when you reach out: Chris will work with you to schedule an initial appointment, generally within a week, to discuss your concerns and develop a plan to address them. This meeting can be conducted over Zoom or in-person, and takes about a half hour. Some brief intake paperwork will be sent for you to complete beforehand. After this initial meeting, if you are interested in engaging in therapy, night and weekend hours will be available. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Chris.
As always, if you are in crisis please do not wait for an appointment but reach out immediately by walking into the CAPS main office, calling the CAPS 24/7 number 919.966.3658 or the national suicide hotline 988. More information about CAPS is available at their website (https://caps.unc.edu/).
