Overview
Dr. Brian’s clinical, administrative, and academic career has focused on the intersection of public health and policy in pursuit of health equity for underrepresented and marginalized populations. He currently serves as associate professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Adams School of Dentistry (UNC ASOD), where in addition to teaching, building curricular innovation strategy, and engaging in health policy research, he directs the school’s community-based service-learning program, Dentistry in Service to Community (DISC), and is the founding director of the UNC Program for Oral Health Policy.
Before joining UNC ASOD, Dr. Brian served in numerous leadership positions supporting equity-centered initiatives within government, non-profit, and private sectors. He is a member of the Council on Practice for the American Association of Public Health Dentistry (AAPHD), the Best Practices Committee for the Association of State and Territorial Dental Directors (ASTDD), the Code Maintenance Committee for the American Dental Association (ADA), and the Board of Directors for the National Network for Oral Health Access (NNOHA). Beyond these appointments, Dr. Brian is also a member of the editorial board of the CDC’s journal, Preventing Chronic Disease, peer reviewer for the Academy of General Dentistry, and Vice Chairman of the Board for the Chatham County Board of Health. He received his BS from Murray State University, his DMD from the University of Louisville, and his MHA from Central Michigan University. Dr. Brian is a fellow in the International College of Dentistry (ICD), the American College of Dentistry (ACD), and was recently accepted into the National Academies of Practice as a Distinguished Fellow.
