Overview

Sanders is primarily involved in maintaining the partnership between the schools of pharmacy and dentistry through initiatives to develop, implement, and evaluate clinical pharmacy services in dental practice clinics as well as active in the creation of longitudinal interprofessional education curricula. Her area of scholarship is at the interface of educational and practice-based research with a focus on interprofessional education, collaborative practice, and pharmacy practice advancement.

Given Sanders’ role in educating dental students and providers about medication-related issues, she has also done significant work in developing educational content and presenting continuing education programming on opioid prescribing and dental pain management to providers across North Carolina and nationally. She has served on state-level committees helping to promote appropriate prescribing to reduce the impact of the opioid epidemic.
