John Hooker Named Director of the Dental Faculty Practice
In August 2022, John Hooker, DDS, began his appointment as the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Adams School of Dentistry’s director of Dental Faculty Practice (DFP). This role will oversee all operations of the UNC DFP.
The DFP is one of the school’s three clinical practices and is the umbrella under which the school’s faculty provide patient care. Comprising more than 65 oral health care providers covering more than 15 dental specialties, the DFP offers patients all facets of care in one facility. The UNC Adams School of Dentistry was one of the nation’s first dental schools to institute a faculty practice and the DFP at UNC is one of the nation’s largest.
Interim Dean Ed Swift, DMD, MS, expressed his “happiness” at having Dr. Hooker lead the DFP and use his extensive experience in the military, private practice, and group practice, to deliver quality patient care.
Hooker received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Chemistry from Western Carolina University in 1982 and received his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from Adams School of Dentistry in 1986. After graduation, he served in the U.S. Navy Dental Corps before beginning work in private practice in 1989.
Hooker is a member of the American Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, North Carolina Dental Society, American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine, American Academy of Implant Dentistry, American Academy of Craniofacial Pain, and American Academy of Facial Esthetics.
