Periodontology Residents

Ellie Gharah-Bash

Ellie Gharah-Bash, Periodontology Class of 2022, grew up in Gonbade Kavus, a small town in the northeastern part of Iran, close to the shores of Caspian Sea.

Her exposure to dentistry started early on at the age of six when she received orthodontic treatment. Lack of access to dental specialty in her hometown made her determined to become a dentist and give back to the community she lives in.

She pursued her goal of becoming a dentist at Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences, Tehran. Shortly after earning her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree, she moved to Raleigh, North Carolina. Immigration did not stop her from pursuing her goal.

In 2015, she started her second DDS degree at UNC Adams School of Dentistry and had the privilege of learning from world renowned dentists. While in dental school, she became interested in periodontology and joined the program shortly after graduation from dental school. She enjoys outdoor activities in beautiful North Carolina with her husband and her dog Fletchie.

In her spare time, she loves to cook Persian food and tries authentic local restaurants.
