Uyan Begins Appointment as Assistant Professor of Comprehensive Dentistry 

Effective June 3, Dilek Uyan, DMD, MS, PhD, began her appointment as a full-time assistant professor of comprehensive dentistry at the UNC Adams School of Dentistry 

“It is a great honor and privilege to join one of the most prestigious universities in the world, one that reaches the highest standards of excellence and leadership in dental education, patient care and research,” said Uyan. “I really enjoy providing leadership to the future dentists and contributing to my field and community by training practitioners who aim to exceed the highest standards in health care and continue to grow their skills and knowledge over their life time.” 

Uyan’s responsibilities as an assistant professor include teaching comprehensive dentistry, working in the clinics and seeing patients at the Dental Faculty Practice. Her research interests include digital technology in dentistry and platelet concentrates in hard and soft tissue augmentation. 

“Dr. Uyan is a multi-talented clinician that brings experience in fixed, removable and implant prosthodontics to our third- and fourth-year DDS students,” said Ryan Cook, DDS, MS, chair of the school’s Department of Restorative Sciences. “She brings training in maxillofacial prosthodontics and experience in private practice and academics to the UNC Adams School of Dentistry. Her addition to the restorative sciences team will enhance our mission to graduate highly skilled clinicians that improve the oral health of patients.” 

She has more than 20 years’ experience in private practice and teaching, including most recently as an adjunct professor at the school. While at the UNC Adams School of Dentistry, Uyan has taught in the comprehensive care, clinical prosthodontics and advanced clinical prosthodontics clinics.  

Uyan received her Doctor of Dental Medicine and Master of Science degrees from Istanbul University, and her doctorate in prosthodontics degree from Instanbul University’s Institute of Health Sciences. She is a member of the American Dental Association, the North Carolina Dental Society, the Istanbul Dental Society and the Turkish Dental Association.
