Donley Elected to National Continuing Education Board of Directors

Ms. Deedra Donley, director of the Continuing Dental Education unit, was elected secretary of the Association for Continuing Dental Education (ACDE) Board of Directors. The vote to appoint her to the board was unanimous.

“I am very excited about my nomination and election as an officer to the ACDE,” said Donley. “Being selected to serve this organization gives me the opportunity to represent the UNC School of Dentistry at a national level, to exchange ideas on best practices in dental education and to enhance our school of dentistry’s profile, and to promote dental education overall. This is a wonderful opportunity for us to explore, brainstorm, and discover new and improved ways to assist dental professionals in their lifelong learning. I am truly grateful for the support of the UNC School of Dentistry and the ACDE in allowing me to serve both institutions, as well as the dental education community.”

Her time as secretary will last one year on the ACDE board. It is expected that annually Donley will participate on the board for the next five years, a role which is to culminate with her ascension to president in the fourth year of her appointment. In her current role as secretary, Donley is responsible for promoting the association, managing communications to association members and liaising between the board and other committees, among other responsibilities.

The ACDE’s mission, according to their website, is to “create opportunities for leadership, collaboration and professional development for university-based continuing dental education professionals to provide the highest quality of continuing dental education.” It is considered the leading organization of continuing dental education providers associated with dental schools in the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico.
