Dillow, Minichbauer Honored by American Association of Dental Sleep Medicine

Recent M.S.D.H. graduates Kristin Dillow and Brittany Minichbauer will be presenting at the upcoming American Association of Dental Sleep Medicine(AADSM) Annual Meeting later this month. The two received the honor after being awarded AADSM Student Research Awards.

As recipients, both Dillow and Minichbauer won complimentary registration for themselves and a guest to the AADSM Annual Meeting, which is being held May 29-31 in Minneapolis, Minn. They will both give a 10-minute presentation about their research. Additionally, they were each also awarded $1,000 for travel expenses, a $400 cash award and a matching cash award for their training programs in the amount of $400. Dr. Greg Essick served as mentor to both Dillow and Minichbauer during their research projects.

“This is a great honor for both Kristin and Brittany,” said Rebecca Wilder, director of the graduate program for dental hygiene. “They’re both going to be great ambassadors for UNC at this conference and in their careers.”

Dillow will present on her research abstract, Physician evaluation among dental patients who screen high-risk for sleep apnea. Her presentation will be held on Friday, May 30 at 1:45 p.m. For this same research, Dillow was also honored with the AADSM Research Excellence Award, which provides her an additional $300 cash prize.

Minichbauer will present on her research abstract, Sleep medicine in dental hygiene education. Her presentation will be held on Friday, May 30 at 2:09 p.m.
