Teamwork at Full Strength at Field Day

Teamwork is central to the student experience in UNC-Chapel Hill School of Dentistry classrooms, labs and clinics – and it was on full display at the University’s Ehringhaus Field on Oct. 2.

Students from all four DDS classes and the dental hygiene and dental assisting programs, as well as undergraduates interested in attending dental school, formed teams and took part in what organizers said they hope will be a yearly Field Day.

The Spurgeon Dental Society and UNC-Chapel Hill Student National Dental Association chapter sponsored the event. Traditional team sports – dodge ball, tug-of-war and the three-legged race – were featured. The event also included a creative relay race involving items of occupational clothing, a full glass of water and a rubber playground ball.

“People were really excited,” said Elise Watson, a second-year dental student and event organizer. “It’s nice to have camaraderie away from the school and socialize. It’s nice to see your fellow classmates after class.

“We have a competitive spirit, and it’s nice to see it come out in such a friendly way.”
