Paquette Named Interim Periodontology Chair

Dr. David Paquette, who joined the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Dentistry faculty in 1994, has been named interim chairman of the School’s Department of Periodontology.

His appointment is effective March 6, 2009.

Paquette, an associate professor, is graduate program director for periodontology and the School’s assistant dean for graduate and advanced dental education. His research focuses on clinical trials of novel interventions for periodontal disease, as well as possible links between periodontal disease and systemic health.

He was a fellow to the American Dental Education Association’s (ADEA) 2006-07 Leadership Institute and is a past president of the International Association for Dental Research’s (IADR) Periodontology Research Group.

“Our School’s Department of Periodontology is known worldwide for its leadership in education and research,” said Dean John N. Williams. “As a distinguished researcher, clinician and educator within this department, Dr. Paquette has made significant contributions to that leadership. He has exceptional judgment and will advocate effectively for the many ways in which periodontology informs the mission of our School.”
