Phillips Is Appointed Interim Orthodontics Chair
Dr. Ceib Phillips, professor of orthodontics in the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Dentistry, has been named interim chair of the School’s Department of Orthodontics.
Her appointment was effective in early October. A search is under way for a permanent department chair, said Dean John N. Williams.
Dr. Camilla Tulloch retired on Oct. 3; she had served as department chair since July 2001 and had been a member of the orthodontics faculty for more than two decades.
Phillips, who received her doctorate from the University of Wisconsin and her master of public health degree in biostatistics from UNC-Chapel Hill, joined the University’s faculty in 1978.Phillips is a recognized leader in clinical research related to orthodontic and oral and maxillofacial surgery treatments with a focus on patient recovery and patient perception of process and outcomes. Her teaching responsibilities are primarily within the Department of Orthodontics and the research core of the postdoctoral program.
“Dr. Phillips demonstrates outstanding determination and enthusiasm for her research, and these qualities communicate a vital message to her faculty colleagues and to the residents within orthodontics,” said Williams. “She is recognized internationally for her research and has the respect of her colleagues both within the School of Dentistry and worldwide. She will be a valued voice in determining priorities for her department, and we are grateful for her leadership.”
