Williams Named Assistant Dean for Human Resources

Rick Williams, former employment manager for North Carolina State University, has been named assistant dean for human resources at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Dentistry.

Williams’ first day at the school was Oct. 16.

Among his responsibilities in this newly created School of Dentistry position, Williams will provide policy advice and counsel concerning human resources matters, help manage the personnel budget and accounting processes and work with the school’s academic units and programs to promote “best practices” in human resources administration.

Williams, who received his bachelor of science degree in industrial relations from UNC-Chapel Hill, had served as employment manager at N.C. State since June 2000. In that role, he supervised 11 employment section staff members, developed the PeopleAdmin online applicant tracking system for use with the Career Banding system and provided consultative services in employment practices, among his responsibilities.

Before joining N.C. State in March 2000 as an employment relations specialist, Williams had held positions at the North Carolina Department of Correction and Harlan Laws Corp.

“We are very fortunate to have Rick serve in this important leadership role within our school,” said Dr. Ken May, vice dean of the School of Dentistry. “He has a wide variety of experience within higher education and brings particular expertise within the area of employee relations. He has demonstrated great creativity and innovation in his career, instituting new HR initiatives that have brought significant benefits to employees and the institution they serve.”
