Ervin Named Executive Director of Dental Foundation of North Carolina

Jim Ervin has been appointed the new executive director for the Dental Foundation of North Carolina and director of development for the School of Dentistry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Ervin, who started work at the school on June 19, is a two-time Carolina graduate, with a bachelor of arts degree in journalism and mass communication (1996) and a master of arts degree in sports administration (1998).

Ervin began his professional career at Carolina in 1997, working for three years in sports marketing in the UNC Department of Athletics.  For the past six years, he has worked in development at the UNC School of Public Health, rising through the ranks from assistant director of development to director of corporate and foundation relations and associate director of development.

“Jim brings with him a great Carolina spirit and history of excellent service to his alma mater,” said Dr. John N. Williams, professor and dean of the School of Dentistry. “Building and sustaining alumni relations is vitally important to the School of Dentistry, and I look forward to working with him.”

Ervin plans to spend much of his first 12 months on the road meeting with alumni, corporations, foundations and good friends of the UNC School of Dentistry throughout North Carolina and beyond.

“It will be an honor to work with alumni and donors who love this school and Carolina and to help them match their interests and generosity with programs that have a lasting impact on oral health care in North Carolina. Alumni and donors have a remarkable tradition of supporting the school through the Dental Foundation, and I am proud to join the UNC School of Dentistry family,” said Ervin.

Ervin replaces Paul Gardner, who now is director of law school relations at Washington & Lee University in Lexington, Va.
