Dr. Maria Mora wins Radiology Centennial Award
Dr. Maria Mora, a third year graduate student in the Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology program, was recently awarded the Radiology Centennial Award from the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology (AAOMR) at its 56th annual meeting in Charleston SC (Nov 16-20). The award is given annually to the radiology graduate student who has demonstrated the most promise as an oral and maxillofacial radiologist and carries with it a $5,000 scholarship.
Dr. Mora is a native of Columbia, South America. Her master’s thesis research involves the application of localized high resolution cone beam computed tomography to the diagnosis of root fractures using an in-vitro model. Dr. Andre’ Mol, Assistant Professor of Diagnostic Sciences and General Dentistry, Radiology Division, is her research mentor. Dr. Mora presented preliminary results from her research project at the AAOMR meeting in Charleston in a paper entitled “Detection of Longitudinal Root Fractures Using Local Computed Tomography”. Dr. Mora also presented a poster on clinical radiology entitled “Lesions that do not Read the Textbook” at the same meeting demonstrating her research and teaching skills.
