4th Annual SNDA “Impressions Program”
On November 20, 2004, the UNC Student National Dental Association (SNDA) held its 4th Annual “Impressions Program.” The focus of the Impressions Program is to make pre-dental students more competitive dental school applicants. There were 59 participants representing nine different institutions, with students traveling from Georgia, Virginia, and surrounding schools within North Carolina. The program consisted of events/topics such as: Two hours of Dental Admissions Test (DAT) prep courses taught by Haeman Noori (DDS Class of 2006), summer program and research opportunities for undergraduate students, mock-interviews, hands-on dentistry (pouring cast), and a panel of guest speakers on the topic of “Women In Dentistry.” Mock-interviews were conducted by UNC-SOD faculty members and local dentists. The “Women in Dentistry” discussion included special appearances by Dr. Joy A. Jordan (President, National Dental Association), Dr. Janet Southerland (UNC-SOD), Dr. Jennifer Webster-Cyriaque (UNC-SOD), and Dr. Latonya Cowser-Gordon (UNC-SOD graduate). Comments from participants in the program included, “The program was excellent!” and “I wish it lasted longer.” Because of the success and increased interest in the program, SNDA is planning to host another “Impressions Program” in the spring.
SNDA would like to give special thanks to those who helped make this program possible: Mr. Thomas Luten, Dr. Albert D. Guckes, Dr. Ronald Strauss, Ms. Phyllis Blaylock, Dr. Jennifer Webster-Cyriaque, Dr. Sylvia Frazier-Bowers, Dr. Janet Southerland, Mr. Larry Keith, Dr. Joy A.
