UNC Schools of Dentistry, Medicine, Public Health and Pharmacy join together to celebrate National Primary Care Week 2004, November 1st-5th.

National Primary Care Week (NPCW) is an annual event to highlight the importance of primary care and to bring health care professionals together to discuss and learn about generalist and interdisciplinary health care, particularly its impact on and importance to underserved populations. NPCW 2004 – “Caring for the Underserved: Careers in Community Health,” scheduled for November 1st-5th, aims to focus the attention of health professional students from all disciplines on primary care careers in community health centers and other organizations with similar missions.

The events for the week are as follows:

Monday, November 1: Adam Serring, NC Access Coalition, 12-1 PM, School of Public Health, Room 113, Rosenau Auditorium

Tuesday, November 2: Dr. Carl Thomas, Piedmont Health, UNC School of Medicine Berryhill 105, 12-1 PM

Wednesday, November 3: “Oral Screenings and the Importance of Oral Health,” Berryhill 103, 12-1 PM AND Dr. Ron Venezie, Dental Director of the NC Department of Health and Human Services, School of Dentistry, Brauer 407, 1-2 PM

Thursday, November 4: Dr. Gayle Thomas, “Community Health Centers,” Berryhill 103, 12-1 PM

Friday, November 5: Wellness Day for Healthcare Providers, School of Dentistry, Brauer 3180, 1 PM

NPCW is funded by the Bureau of Health Professions’ Division of National Health Service Corps and Division of Medicine and Dentistry, and managed by the American Medical Student Association (AMSA) Foundation. UNC National Primary Care Week is sponsored by UNC Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Public Health and Pharmacy,North Carolina Area Health Education Centers (AHEC), NC Academy of General Dentistry, NC Dental Foundation, American Medical Student Association (AMSA), and Patterson Dental Supply.

The 2004 National Primary Care Committee includes: Jonelle S.
