Two Faculty Receive Awards at the North Carolina Dental Society Meeting
William Proffit DDS, PHD, MS, Kenan Professor and retired chairman of the department of orthodontics, received the Meritorious Achievement Award at the annual North Carolina Dental Society Meeting May 17. The award is given by the society to a member in good standing who has demonstrated in recent years significant achievement in dentistry. The award recognizes leadership, academics, research, health care delivery or professionalism.
John Sowter, DDS, MSc, adjunct professor in the department of prosthodontics, received the 2002 Outstanding Faculty Award from the Carolinas Section of the American College of Dentistry at the same meeting. The award is given to the faculty member at the UNC School of Dentistry who demonstrates excellence in professionalism and ethics throughout the year. The members of the graduating dental class make the nominations and vote on the recipient.
