Reed Mockaitis Named Alumni Scholar
Third year dental student Reed Mockaitis has been named the UNC Dental Alumni Association’s Alumni Scholar for 2001. The Alumni Scholarship Committee bases the $3,000 award on financial need, academic performance and an interview.
Born in Bay City, Mich., he received an undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan. Mockaitis is student representative on the school’s Admission’s Committee and is the school’s representative on the Honor Court.
His community volunteer efforts while a student at the School of Dentistry include: SHAC health Clinic, Ronald McDonald House, YMCA and Britthaven Nursing Home. Amy Cummings and LeKecia McGee received $500 each as runner-up awards.
The UNC Dental Alumni Association started an endowment in 1999 to support the annual scholarship. The association will maintain the scholarship until the endowment grows to support the Scholarship Fund.
