Almond Named Associate Director of The Dental Foundation of North Carolina

071301almond (1)The Dental Foundation of North Carolina Inc. is pleased to announce the appointment of Kelly Kirby Almond of Chapel Hill as its new associate director. Almond, who received her B.A. in English from UNC in 1994, comes to the DFNC after serving as the associate director of alumni affairs and annual fund at the UNC School of Nursing. Her first official day with the DFNC was July 2. Almond worked with the School of Nursing for almost three years, first as its interim associate director of public relations and alumni affairs, and then in her most recent position.

Almond increased the school’s annual fund giving by 15 percent and alumni reunion participation by 67 percent. She also served as the executive director of the school’s Alumni Association Board of Directors. Almond also has been the assistant coordinator of clubs with the UNC General Alumni Association, and assistant director of donor and alumni events with the UNC School of Pharmacy. She began her career at the North Carolina Museum of Art Foundation. She is a member of the Triangle Young Alumni Advisory Board for UNC and volunteers with the North Carolina Pharmacy Foundation.

Almond lives in Chapel Hill with her husband, Kevin Almond, who is the associate dean for advancement at the School of Pharmacy. Almond said her sports fan loyalties are divided between UNC and Greensboro College, where her father, Marion Kirby, recently started a football program. She enjoys spending time with friends and is an avid reader.

“I’m excited to be joining a great development team at a wonderful institution,” she said. “I have been acquainted with the School of Dentistry’s reputation and prestige since I was a student at UNC and am very happy to have the opportunity to work on its behalf.”

Almond replaces Tina CoyneSmith, who recently joined the development office at UNC’s Kenan-Flagler School of Business.
